Israel Has Violated Ceasefire 47 Times and Killed 38 Palestinians, Says Gaza Media Office
GAZA CITY The Gaza Media Office on Sunday accused Israel of violating the recently brokered ceasefire agreement 47 times since it took effect last week, claiming that at least 38 Palestinians have been killed and dozens more injured in renewed attacks across the coastal enclave.
According to the media office’s statement, Israeli forces carried out multiple air and artillery strikes, including an attack on a civilian bus near Khan Younis that killed 11 people, among them several children. Local authorities said the victims were returning from a school-related event when the bus was hit.
“These repeated violations demonstrate Israel’s disregard for the ceasefire and for international law,” the statement said, calling on the United Nations and humanitarian organizations “to intervene urgently to protect unarmed civilian populations from ongoing aggression.”
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not immediately respond to the allegations but have previously stated that their recent operations targeted “terrorist infrastructure” and were in response to rockets launched from Gaza into Israeli territory.
The fragile ceasefire, negotiated with mediation from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, was intended to halt weeks of violence that left hundreds dead and displaced tens of thousands. Humanitarian groups say the latest round of hostilities has further strained Gaza’s already dire infrastructure, with hospitals reporting critical shortages of fuel and medical supplies.
UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland said in a brief statement that his office was “closely monitoring reports of ceasefire breaches” and reiterated calls for both sides to show restraint.
Regional analysts warn that if the current pattern continues, the ceasefire could fully collapse within days. “What we’re seeing is a very fragile truce being tested by mutual distrust,” said Karim Mansour, a political analyst based in Amman. “Each side claims the other is violating the agreement, but civilians are bearing the brunt.”
As of Sunday evening, thousands of Palestinians gathered in Gaza City for funerals of those killed in the latest strikes, demanding international accountability and the full implementation of the ceasefire terms.
“Every time we believe the bombing has stopped, it begins again,” said Laila Ahmed, a resident of Rafah. “We don’t know what a real ceasefire means anymore.”
